RedBull World Cup 23'

Crandon Raceway, home to the most iconic track in the USA. A town where the few become the many, where tens of thousands of race fans swarm for the Labor Day weekend trackside show. From parades, parties, races, concerts, and more, this weekend is filled to the top with high octane and high spirits!

Trekking from Phoenix to Crandon Wisconsin is a chore in itself. Our crew, who departed from Florida to Arizona for prep before the race, set sail with the race hauler and the Silver Lemon making the journey north east. In journey man fashion, the Silver Lemon stayed true to her name blowing the turbo out of the truck. With a SOS out on the racer forums, Ryan Rockhold came to the rescue with a new tow rig while Kevin and Sarah dropped off the Ram for repairs. Hauling both teams together with a strong pace, the team arrived at the Big House! While other family and teammates traveled cross country flying in, everyone settled in for the evening as qualifying was going live the next morning.

Qualifying:

With track time split with multiple classes it was valuable to get in as many laps as we could. Making adjustments from our previous race to a short course race, meant changes to the car were needed. Our Fox Shocks were adjusted for the track, speeds, and jumps, while our wheels were wider offset, our limit straps were shorter for less body roll, and the car lowered for a better center of gravity. Sharing qualifying time with the field can be difficult. Qualifying is based on your fastest lap time. No codrivers were allowed in this race, traffic or not, we pushed for starting mid-pack with the 4400 class for Saturday's night race.

Parade:

Crandon is a small town, there's no doubt about it. The Friday street parade is full of fun, friends, and a field of racecars of all classes lining the street waiting for the parade to start! Music, food, and fun surround the town while the festivities start early the morning and head well into the afternoon. The team also made a special trip to the bakery for John's 34th birthday cake. Thanks to Amanda making a custom one-off cake for John and the boys it was smiles all around!

Quality has always been Tom Wood’s number one focus. We have never wanted to be the cheapest or even the biggest, only the best. We believe in the business model of creating the best product available and offering it at fair prices. Our brand reputation has been built the hard way, by always holding ourselves and our products to the highest standards. This will never change.

Night Race Heat:

Staging for the night race is like nothing you've ever seen! 1000HP vehicles roaring on a land rush start to dive into turn one funneling down to the short course. Keeping steady pace with the leaders we held our lines through the wet course. The night race was the long track course, adding in more rocks, table tops and rollers for the Ultra4 cars. Kevin in the spotter stand was the #4415's eyes in the sky supporting the traffic and track conditions while we picked off positions. Flying over boulders, our Dirty Life Race Wheels took a beating with our 40" BFGoodrich tires. With full traction, they never skipped a beat. Eight hard laps as Kevin helped clear a path to the front of the line for us. We landed 6th for the evening when the checker flag waived! This put us in prime location for the next day's Red Bull World Cup.

Red Bull World Cup:

6th off the line. Stance is low. The car is ready. Side by side with the best of the best, the green flag drops. Taking the infamous turn one with 80,000 fans standing in the grandstands sets the scene for an epic battle of attrition. This fast-pace short course track was built for speed, but this year they've added more rocks on course in typical Ultra4 fashion. Battling out front with Casey Gilbert in his Miller Motorsports Pro Chassis it was a straight axle dog fight for the leading position with the pack. While our Miller pro chassis battled for 4th, we could see Paul Hershel pulling away from us in third. Keeping calm while driving and listening closely to Kevin spotting, we had a window for passing and we took it to charge for the podium. Barreling down the short course, our Klein Engines LS7 roared as we gained on the leaders. As the white flag dropped we were on a mission to catch Paul and his IFS Ultra4 car but it wasn't enough, landing us 4th for the Red Bull World Cup!

Our car was fast, smooth and consistent in the jumps, rocks and slick turns. Our Tom Wood's Drive Shafts never skipped a beat whipping around the corners and dancing over the rocks. Placing 4th lands us our 4400 Unlimited class entry into the 2024 King of the Hammers race!

This will be the 10th KOH for Proving Grounds Racing.
